Keeping the air flowing in a revamped multi-use building

Air Vent Technology specialists provided the insight to overcome several installation challenges.

Challenge

As part of the complex refurbishment of a general-purpose multi-use building in Battersea, Air Vent Technology was tasked with supplying four key ventilation units.

Inside the building, a new catering kitchen, gym changing room, and studio kitchen were all being developed.

Our units would facilitate the flow of healthy, fresh air in each of these environments. A mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) unit was to be placed on the roof, along with a supply unit and an extract fan. Inside the building, an HRPSL counter flow heat recovery unit was also required.

Three key challenges emerged:

• Space was limited on the roof and the footprint available for the MVHR was tight, especially given ongoing maintenance requirements.
• Noise had to be kept to a minimum, with the large MVHR unit closely surrounded by office windows.
• A glass roof panel was situated directly below the MVHR unit’s extract connection.

Solution

Air Vent Technology took every possible opportunity to understand the requirements in full. We worked through several revisions during the quote stage, consistently refining technical selections and acoustic calculations until the right solution was found.

An HRRSL560EC MVHR unit was supplied and successfully delivered to the roof of the building, alongside the separate supply unit and extract fan. The HRPSL counter flow heat recovery unit was delivered internally.

Attenuation was also needed on the main MVHR unit, and our specialists offered expert advice on in-duct and breakout noise levels, modified casework, and different fan solutions. We also advised on the extra support needed to ensure the attenuation solutions were safely installed above the glass roof panel.

Results

The newly refurbished building is now fully operational, benefitting from clean, fresh air and controlled temperatures in each of the catering kitchen, gym changing room, and studio kitchen.

The client was delighted with our assistance throughout the process, including our Site Engineering Services (SES) team working on site to ensure smooth operations on delivery day.
